EMR/EMF Inspection

Today, more and more people are becoming aware of the dangers and hazards of electro magnetic radiation (EMR) or Electro Magnetic Field (EMF) and the need for an inspection due to the associated hyper-sensitivity and syndromes of some people to these forms of energy.  This energy comes from a variety of sources inside and outside your home. 

Inside sources can be: alarm clocks, computers, cell phones, microwave ovens, electrical wiring, blue-tooth devices, television sets, printers, fax machines, network hubs, wireless routers, and just about anything that is computer related, or devices which have electronic parts. 

Outside sources can be: cell phone towers, radio stations, television stations, power transformers, satellites in the earths orbit (i.e. GPS, Satellite Phone Networks, NASA projects, OnStar Network, etc.), cars, planes, Amateur radio operators, the sun, the stars and other galaxies in space. 

All of these sources are converging energy in some form (electrical, magnetic, radio waves) on you.  Some of you may be feeling the effects of all this EMR energy.  Low levels of these energy fields are harmless and have little effect upon the human body, but the higher the energy levels, the more likely you are to experience problems, such as headaches, insomnia, neurological disorders, eye irritation, dizziness, pain in joints and muscles, buzzing or ringing in the ears, nausea, skin rash, facial swelling, and fatigue.

Based upon my experience in measuring Electro-Magnetic and RF fields during inspections, the most commonly high places for magnetic fields is near large power transformers, and high voltage power lines. In residential neighborhoods, most of the time, there are safe levels, usually below 3 milligauss readings. But if your are near (150ft or less), say 230KV power lines, you can have levels at 10 milligauss and higher. Another common area is apartment or condominium power transformers, either above ground or below ground. I have found levels as high as 50 milligauss when only 50-60 feet from these units. Sometimes, the owners of these buildings have contractual agreements with cell phone providers, who install hidden antenna systems in the roofs of these buildings. I have found very high levels of High Frequency Radio signals in the hallways of these units. From experience, I know that 5 watts of VHF or UHF transmission signals can give the average person a head ache, when the person is about 30 feet or less from the antenna. Many of these cell towers are putting out about 125 watts of UHF (range) signals.

Below here are some photos of actual electric field and magnetic field readings while doing inspections in the area. The two photos below here are from the Federal Way area of Washington. These readings were taken about one block from some very high voltage lines (likely 230KV) at the porch of the home I was inspecting. If you are near these types of power lines you likely have similar readings if you are within 300-400 feet.

The two photos below here are from the Tacoma area of Washington, near 84th Street and South Tacoma Way. These readings were taken about one block from some very high voltage lines. If you are near these types of power lines you likely have similar readings if you are within 300-400 feet.

The reading was taken at the front yard on a relatively quite road. If you are near these types of power lines you likely have similar readings.
